In order to get a divorce in British Columbia, the spouses must meet the residency requirements of the province.
Thus, one of the spouses must have been resident in British Columbia for at least one year before filing a lawsuit.
It does not matter if the marriage occurred in British Columbia or another province within Canada, the main thing is that British Columbia recognizes that the marriage is legal.
